BDMAC PresentBDMAC is a thriving club with around 100 members. Negotiations with the local council conderning our activities are progressing. The Midsummer rally in June was marred by the weather somewhat, but it did not dampen our enthusiasm. The committee are putting together a working safety document based upon our own rules and those of the BMFA. This will be ready sometime in August. In order to maintain a good relationship with the Council each member is reminded that we must abide by common sense practices when operasting model aircraft at Pleasington. Obituary 25/06/00 It is with great sadness that I report the death of Derek Orrell. a member of the Blackburn & District Model Aircraft Club for just 18 months. Derek was a friendly character and produced excellent quality aeroplanes. It is a real pity that his personal ambition to achieve BMFA "A" certification was never realised, he certainly had the skills and aptitude - but his illness intervened and robbed him of that ambition at just 49 years of age.. His friendliness towards others and his willingness to help anyone out was his trade mark. As a final gesture Derek donated his Yammamoto trainer, complete with engine and radio, to the club for the purpose of teaching others to fly. This selfless gesture will not be forgotten by BDMAC members, indeed the model was used during our midsummer rally to demonstrate the art of learning to fly. Our thoughts are with his wife Annette and daughter Sharon at this time. Those who knew Derek will have already guessed that his response would be "It'll be alright" As a tribute to him I flew a silent electric glider over the funeral cortège and up towards the Pleasington cemetery. It was one of his last wishes that his funeral took place on a flying day and during flying hours. Our site is on the route to the cemetery and the funeral party paused at the flying field which was lined by members showing their last respects..A floral tribute containing the BDMAC logo was made by his closest clubmates, Bill and Tina from Darwen. You will be missed by us all. Kevin A Watson Hon. Sec. |
